Vienna Airport The City Airport Train (CAT) operates non-stop in about 16 minutes from the airport to the inner city. A ticket costs € 12 one-way, a return ticket € 19. Tickets can be purchased online with a discount of € 1 (one-way) or € 2 (return) whilst tickets purchased on board cost an additional € 2. Further information can be obtained at www.cityairporttrain.com (English version available). The regular S-Bahn (metropolitan train S7) also operates between the inner city and the airport. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes and a ticket at a price of approx. € 4.20 one- way can be purchased at Wiener Linien. Austrian Rail The railway system (ÖBB – Österreichische Bundesbahnen) in Austria is very efficient and practical. The major cities are connected by express trains (ÖBB Intercity, Intercity Express/ICE, Railjet, Intercity/IC and Eurocity/EC). Regional trains (Regional Express/REX and Regionalzug/R) operate in the smaller cities and towns. A number of different types of train tickets and passes are available. Waiting time will also be charged. In case a taxi is needed early in the morning it is advisable to order it the evening before. There are many taxi companies in Vienna. Cycling Cycling is an efficient and fast means of transport within the city, and it is getting more popular each year. There are more than 1,200 km of bicycle lanes in Vienna, as well as theme bicycle routes (e.g. the “Bernsteinroute” (Amber Route) or the “Donauradweg” (Danube Bicycle Route). Bicycles need to have two functioning brakes, a bike bell, a white headlight with a light intensity of minimum 100 cd, a red rear light with a light intensity of minimum 1 cd, a white reflector at the front and a red reflector at the rear, cat’s eyes at the pedals and cat’s eyes at the wheels (alternatively reflecting tires). Children under the age of twelve have to wear a bike helmet. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.8 ‰ for cyclists. Levels above this limit will be fined heavily.
