Parking There are many short-term parking zones in Vienna where parking is usually limited to a maximum of two to three hours between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and is subject to a fee (€ 1 for 0.5 hours, € 2 for 1 hour, € 3 for 1.5 hours, and € 4 for 2 hours). Parking tickets can be purchased e.g. in kiosks, banks, petrol stations and automobile clubs. With a few exceptions, the areas of districts 1 to 9 and districts 12, 14 to 17 and 20 are short-term parking zones. It is possible to obtain a certificate that allows parking in the short-term parking zones for free for a maximum of 15 minutes, the so-called “15-Minuten-Parkschein”. Residents of the above mentioned districts can obtain a permanent resident parking ticket at the authority (“Magistrat”) of the respective district. Fees do apply for the issue of the ticket (ca. € 55) and the ticket itself (€ 90-120 for 1 year, € 180-240 for 2 years – depending on the district). Automobile Clubs Most Austrian car holders are members of an automobile club. The clubs offer assistance through motorised patrols (breakdown service) on the Autobahn and main roads (available to non-members at a fee). The two best known are ÖAMTC and ARBÖ. They have branch offices throughout the country.
