Health Medical/Dental Systems Overview

Healthcare in México is usually very good, and in some places, it is top of the line. Most doctors and dentists in México today received at least part of their training in the U.S. and continue to travel to the U.S. and Europe for ongoing training.

Vaccinations There are no vaccinations needed for traveling to Mexico.

Insurance Mexico’s Social Security System (IMSS) is available for citizens and expatriates who hold jobs in the country, however it is recommended that you purchase private health insurance as public hospitals and health facilities are overcrowded and understaffed. Private hospitals and clinics have high standards of medical care. There are several private insurance companies, these provide health coverage for a monthly fee; how much is covered depends on what plan you choose to purchase. Pets Registration

To bring a pet into Mexico, the owner must present a health certificate, all vaccinations must be valid, and the pet must be free of any external parasites. No birds, snakes or any endangered species are allowed into Mexico. Do not purchase animals at the local markets because they might be endangered species and it is not legal.
