Child Allowance Application Child allowance can be requested for every natural or adopted child continuously residing in Luxembourg or any other EU country. It is paid at the end of every month and the amount depends on the number of children in the family and the age of each child. Benefits are paid until the child is 18 years old, but may be extended to the age of 25, provided the child remains a full- time student in secondary education. How do I apply? The application form and the supporting documentation needs to be sent to the following address: Caisse pour l’Avenir des Enfants (CAE) 34 v. de la Porte-Neuve L-2227 Luxembourg Required documents for the application: + Application Form (provided by DSC) o Please note that the completed application form must be certified at the commune of residence, if the family members are living in their home country (EU only). + Copies of the parents’ passports + Marriage certificate + Birth certificate(s) of the child/children + Proof that you are not receiving family allowance in another country or proof of the amount the family receives in the home country o For EU citizens E401 form obligatory o For Non-EU citizens of a country in which child benefits exist, a government document confirming that payments have ceased is required o For Non-EU citizen of a country in which child benefits do not exist, a sworn declaration, provided by your DSC, is accepted + Certificate of employment for the working parent + “RIB” document from the Luxembourgish bank, showing the account details + Copy of residence permit for every family member for Non-EU nationals

Frequently Asked Questions + When can we apply for Child Allowance? – The working parent (the holder of Luxembourgish work contract) can apply for child allowance as of the work start date, provided all the supportive documentation is in place. If the person is a non-EU citizen, it is mandatory to obtain the residence permit before the application will be accepted. o Child allowance payments will be backdated to the date of your first registration + Can I apply for Child Allowance if my spouse and children live in another country? Yes, it is possible within the EU, provided all supportive documentation, including necessary certificates issued by the country of the family’s residence, are in place. If this is the case, child allowance is paid twice per year – in June and in December. Child allowancecannot be paid if the family remains in a non-EU country. + Can I apply for Child Allowance if my spouse and children live in another country and receive child benefits there? – Yes, it is possible, however you will be only paid the difference between the Luxembourgish child allowance and that of the country of family’s residence. + Can I apply for Child Allowance if both my spouse and I have not obtained our residence permits yet? – No, if you are non-EU citizen, it is mandatory to be in possession of a valid residence permit before child allowance is granted. + What are the challenges in applying for child allowance? o It is important to file and submit the application as soon as possible because it triggers the right for Cheque Service. o CAE reserves the right to request more documents than mentioned above.
