Other events In addition, there are plenty of other events which take place every year in Munich. The following is only a guideline: + Frühlingsfest – Spring Festival of showmen and market traders on the Theresienwiese, beginning at Easter for two weeks + Stadtgründungsfest – over the Pentecost weekend, Munich celebrates its founding. It takes place from Marienplatz to Odeonsplatz with a wide international program of events and special attractions for children + Münchner Biennale – Classic Music Festival, takes place in the Muffathalle and the Carl- Orff-Saal im Gasteig for two weeks in May every two years (www.muenchenerbiennale.de - English version available) + Münchner Stadtlauf – open race with choice of distances between 10 kilometres and half- marathon from downtown to the English Garden, end of June + Münchner Opernfestspiele – Munich Opera Festival with long-standing tradition, premiere on 1 st July with Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlos at the National Theater (www.muenchner- opern-festspiele.de - English version available) + Kino Open Air – Open Air Cinema Festival at the Königsplatz showing movie highlights of the past years (www.kinoopenair.de) + Sommerfest im Olympiapark – Summer Festival at the Olympiapark , a variety of Munich’s Rock and Jazz music scene, two weeks in August + Christkindlmarkt – traditional Christmas Market at the Marienplatz, opens at the end of November (www.christkindlmarkt-marienplatz.de)
