The Bavarian State Opera, which houses amongst other cultural facilities the Nationaltheater, is at the top of the list of some 50 theatres of which the city boasts. The Alte and Neue Pinakothek , the German Museum and the Bavarian National Museum are the leading lights among some 50 museums, all of which deserve a visit. Munich belongs to the pioneer cities of German cinema. Nowadays the studios at Geiselgasteig are again producing artistically important films. Since the second world war Munich has developed into Germany's largest centre for printed publications.
