Jefferson City is the capital of the state of Missouri, located in Cole County just near the Missouri River. It is named after the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson and houses the Missouri Capitol since 1917. Jefferson City´s top industries include government, health care, manufacturing, retail, education, and tourism. Jefferson City has easy access to other convenient towns, for example, St. Louis is just 2 hours away, Kansas City is a little over two hours, and Branson is less than three hours away. This is an up-and-coming charming city with many historical sites. Jefferson City strives to keep its historical features and highlight them as well. It also has a good school district and numerous places to eat, shop, and hang out. This town has something for everyone to enjoy! Climate Jefferson City tends to have hot, rainy summers and cold winters. The city borders on having a humid subtropical climate, but falls just short due to January having a mean temperature of 30 °F (−1 °C) which is below the 32 °F (0 °C) isothern. Thunderstorms are common in both the spring and summer. Light snow is common during the winter, although about half of wintertime precipitation falls as rain.
