The state is located in the center of the nation and after the city of León, Irapuato is the next largest city in Guanajuato. Irapuato was founded in 1547, the subsequent population became an active party in México’s colonial and revolutionary era. Due to the proximity to major rivers, Irapuato has long been an agricultural community. The livestock and crops raised in the area, especially strawberries are famous throughout México.
