Welcome to Oceanside, California! At the heart of the San Luis Rey Valley is Oceanside, a coastal city with year-round sunny weather and palm trees everywhere you turn. Oceanside is situated about 35 miles north of San Diego and about 85 miles south of Los Angeles. It is the third-largest city in San Diego County, and along with Carlsbad and Vista, it forms a tri-city metro area within the county. Oceanside features over 3.5 miles of beach shoreline offering endless opportunities for water-sport recreation. The city harbor has facilities for boating, sport fishing and even whale-watching during winter season. Oceanside beckons you with beach breeze charm and is a true staple of Southern California living. The city is home to the California Surf Museum and the Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, one of the Alta California missions. In addition to beautiful beaches and miles of coastline, Oceanside is only a short drive from San Diego, a bustling Southern California city with plenty of sights to see.

Oceanside City Downtown Location and Culture
Home to some of the best surfing locations in California, Downtown Oceanside is the quintessential beach town. Easily accessible from the I-5 and the Coaster commuter train, Downtown features a diverse atmosphere. Local surf shops, casual restaurants and museums are straddled along the city’s boardwalk all the way to the harbor. Oceanside Harbor has two adjacent playgrounds on the beach, a wooden pier and even a camping site. Housing The housing market in Downtown Oceanside is mostly made of single-family detached homes. Other prevalent type of housing in Oceanside include large apartment complexes or high-rise apartments and, row houses. Schooling Oceanside Unified School District serves the entire Oceanside area. Over 18,000 students across 23 schools part take every year. Students and adults across our district are valued and consistently show integrity, compassion, and respect.
Activities and Landmarks Oceanside has a unique ocean vibe. With a permanent collection of the history of surf, wave-riding and surfboard memorabilia, the California Surf Museum also offers many revolving exhibits each year. Situated 40 miles north of San Diego in the coastal city of Oceanside, Mira Costa is an upscale suburban neighborhood. Mira Costa features oceanfront views, a community college and excellent housing options. The area is considered vibrant and full of live with an abundance of nightlife and culturally diverse restaurants, from casual cafes to exquisite fine dining catering for every taste. Housing The area’s housing market includes properties on high-end of the spectrum as well as more affordable options. Mira Costa has several apartment complexes and single-family homes with yard space are prevalent in the area. Activities and Landmarks In addition to numerous fine dining restaurants, bars and shopping centers, Mira Costa has no shortage of things to see and do. Ivey Ranch and the adjacent neighborhood of Rancho del Oro are sometimes lumped together as one upscale community, and the names are sometimes used interchangeably in reference to the Ivey Ranch/Rancho del Oro area. Ivey Ranch/Rancho del Oro is located just outside of downtown Oceanside and south of Highway 76, which means residents are in close proximity to an appealing variety of dining, shopping and entertainment options. Housing Ivey Ranch and Rancho del Oro are some of the most popular neighborhoods in Oceanside. Housing includes single-family, detached homes, townhouses, condominiums, duplexes, and apartment complexes, which provides a wide array of options for renters looking for a home. Schooling The neighborhood is served by the Oceanside Unified School District for public school education, as well as North County private schools. Some of the schools serving the area include Ivey Ranch Elementary School, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School Hiking, surfing, golf, shopping, sailing and tons of entertainment options are easily within reach from this neighborhood. Located about 35 miles north of San Diego, the city of Carlsbad lies along the Pacific Ocean just south of Oceanside in Southern California. Known as “The Village by the Sea,” the city of Carlsbad offers the charm of a European town with the conveniences of a large city. Living in Carlsbad offers residents a suburban feel, with no shortage of restaurants and coffee shops. Many of the restaurant choices are clustered in Carlsbad Village and are close to the ocean. Housing Carlsbad is divided into quadrants that include different types of housing such as cottages, bungalows and mansions overlooking the ocean, and are separated from those areas where resorts and master-planned communities are located. Schooling Carlsbad is served by Carlsbad Unified School District a top- rated public-school District. The district manages two high schools, three middle schools and nine elementary schools. In addition to public schools, the area has international school options such as Carlsbad International School . Activities and Landmarks Carlsbad has also been able to maintain it gorgeous open spaces, and unmatched amenities all with the relaxed feel of a beach community. Located in northwestern San Diego County, Vista is a bustling suburban city packed with cultural opportunities that incorporate its sparkling sunny weather. (It’s no surprise that Vista’s name translates to “view” in Spanish!) With its Mediterranean climate and picturesque water views, Vista affords residents access to year-round outdoor activities. Housing The housing market in Vista has apartment complexes as well as single family homes. Apartments range from 1-3 bedrooms and homes between 2-5 bedrooms. There is a mixture of older and new neighborhoods in the area to supply for every need. Activities and Landmarks Vista is a town that has a tradition of art appreciation with the Moonlight Stage Production and Vista’s Broadway Theater. The best places to learn about the city’s origins and history are the beautifully preserved Rancho Buena Vista Adobe as well as Vista Historical Society’s Museum at Rancho Minerva.

Transportation Options Oceanside Highways and Roads Highways and Freeways
Public Transportation Rail and Bus + North County Transit District: The public transit authority of Oceanside. + Sprinter Hybrid Rail : Connects Oceanside with Vista, San Marcos and Escondido—serving 15 stations along the Highway 78 corridor. + Metro Link : Connects Oceanside throughout North County + Amtrak Pacific Surfliner: Connects Oceanside with Solana Beach, and downtown San Diego. + Greyhound Bus: Bus transport services around the city. + Riverside Transit Buses: Runs 9 fixed routes, eight CommuterLink express routes with a fleet of 334 buses. Bicycle + You can use a bicycle in Oceanside. Oceanside has been recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Cyclists, for its clearly marked bike trails and incorporation of cycling into the development and future infrastructure of the community. Car + Driving a car in Oceanside is a great idea, the city offers plenty of free parking options near the major beaches and the pier.
Locals often refer to freeways by route number, not by name, and say “The” before the number. Oceanside is the last city before Orange County. The main highways and roads include: + The I-5 : Runs north-south up the middle Oceanside along the coast. + The SR-76 : Runs east–west route in the North County region of San Diego County that begins in Oceanside.
