Welcome to Amsterdam! Between the many streets filled with red brick homes running along the canals, and the stately museums displaying masterpieces by Rembrandt and Vermeer, you might think the Netherlands’ capital city is all about history. What you’ll be surprised to experience is with a creative food scene, an open-minded attitude, and an innovative culture of design, Amsterdam is a modern city that happens to have a rich history. Amsterdam is divided in the City center, North, East, South and West and offers beautiful parks, museums, and theaters where locals and tourists blend together to form a vibrant city. The inner city is divided by canals into over 80 “islands,” and the municipality contains approximately 1,300 bridges and viaducts. Although the city has a modern metro system, the workforce still relies on the timeless bicycle for transportation. Amstelveen is a municipality in the province of North Netherlands, and it is considered a part of the suburban metropolitan area of Amsterdam. The municipality of Amstelveen consists of the historical villages of Bovenkerk and Nes aan de Amstel. Economic development of Amstelveen relies on aviation and technology industries. Oud-Zuid Location and Culture
Hoofddorp is the main town of Haarlemmermeer municipality in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. The first windmill in the Haarlemmermeer was built in the center of Hoofddorp; it has operated regularly since and is now open to the public. Hoofddorp is connected by many bus lines to several cities and towns in the immediate surroundings. It is very easy to reach Haarlem, Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Zuidoost by the high-quality bus line. Housing From small, historical houses alongside the ring canal, to new, modern homes in urban neighborhoods, housing in Hoofddorp follows the usual compact Dutch style. As the central location between Amsterdam, The Hague, and The International Schiphol Airport living and working in Hoofddorp and the surrounding areas is ideal. Schooling Hoofddorp Village is part of Haarlemmermeer municipality, which has a large number of primary and secondary international schools to choose from, such as the Gifted Minds International School (GMIS) and Optimist International School . It is always important to remember the Dutch school system differs from the traditional education model. Located south of Amsterdam center, Oud-Zuid is known as the museum quarters. The neighborhood boasts the Rijksmuseum with Dutch and European art, and artefacts from the Middle Ages to the present day. On the outskirts of Oud-Zuid, several food markets, designer boutiques and outdoor cafes showcase an array of entertainment from high-end shopping to outdoor made-to- order crêpes with delicatessen cheese. Housing Oud-Zuid District is a prime area to reside with the highest average value homes in Amsterdam. The area is mainly home to artists and students. Apartments, small townhouses and shared flats are the most common accommodation. House rental rates have been going up in the area due to the area’s posh, hip vibe.

Buiksloterham (Amsterdam-Noord) Location and Culture Situated along Amsterdam’s northern shoreline, Buiksloterham has undergone a rapid urban development over the last few decades, turning this suburban location into a cultural center. It is the best combination of vast green nature and little villages plus some of the city's most cutting-edge architecture and exciting festivals. Two architecturally stunning buildings are located in the Buiksloterham area. The area is also beloved by movie lovers due to several film institutes and museums located in the area. De Pijp Location and Culture
Known as Amsterdam’s Latin Quarter and located in the heart of central Amsterdam, De Pijp was at one time a working-class area that is now bursting with diverse restaurants, trendy shops, and hipster charm. Vestiges of this area’s fascinating history are still visible throughout its long, narrow streets. When strolling or biking through the neighborhood you’ll recognize that most of roads are named after famous Dutch painters, making De Pijp as bohemian as it can be. De Pijp is also home to many excellent cafés and restaurants and is well known by locals for its amazing brunch restaurants. With its cool boutiques, this area is where young professionals, artists and students like to hang out. Housing Mainly constructed in the 19th century, houses and apartments have one characteristic in common in De Pijp are often visibly narrow and compact. The housing market is composed of small townhouses, apartments and duplexes are often smaller than the norm and usually shared. Schooling Due to location of the neighborhood, the area features an array of schooling options ranging from public and religious to international schools. + Amsterdam City Rail: Nederlandse Spoorwegen is the name is Dutch for the city rail. Made up of 12 stations scattered around the city + Connexion Bus : This is the largest operator of electric buses in Europe. IT serves in Amstelland, Amsterdam- Zuidoost, Gooi, Haaglanden, Haarlem, Hoeksche Waard, IJsselmonde, Rozenburg, Vechtstreek, Voorne-Putten, Zaanstreek and Zeeland + Amsterdam Metro : Rapid transit system serving Amsterdam and surrounding municipalities of Diemen and Ouder-Amstel. The metro system consists of five routes and serves 39 stations + Amsterdam Trams: The Amsterdam Tram is the largest tram network in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe. There are currently 15 routes, all tram routes were given a route number and a route color Bicycle + Amsterdam is known as one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world and is a center of bicycle culture. A whopping 48% of the commuting trips in the city are made by bicycle. Most main streets have bike paths and bicycles are used by all regardless of socio-economic status because of their convenience and Amsterdam's small size Car + Driving a car is discouraged, parking fees are expensive, and many streets are closed to cars or are one-way for motor vehicle traffic. Amsterdam's bike paths are red in color, in order to differentiate them from both the roadways and footpaths
Locals often refer to freeways by route number, not by name, and say “De” before the number.
