EXPLORE ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS

Englewood Cliffs is a borough of Bergen County, the riverside suburb community just north of the George Washington Bridge. It is regarded for its lush natural beauty as well as its spectacular views of the city across the Hudson River. The borough and its neighboring towns have a wide array of shops and boutiques, cafes, restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. Englewood Cliffs is also home to several major corporations, especially in the financial industries. Situated just across the Hudson River from greater New York City, the area provides the feel of a small town community with all the amenities of a major city just a short drive away. Englewood Cliffs is sorrounded by several other popular locations such as Fort Lee, Englewood and Ridgewood. Living among peaceful, tree-dense thoroughfares, along with an excellent-rated school system, makes Englewood Cliffs a popular suburb amoung families with young children. FOOD & DRINK Favorite local restaurants include Cliffs Steakhouse, a charming and upscale restaurant that serves wonderfully prepared steaks, pasta, and a variety of seafood. Plus, grocery stores, coffee shops, and even cozy hole-in-the-wall bars are located all over Englewood Cliffs. SHOPPING Small local stores are the norm in Englewood Cliffs, while some shopping plazas and malls are located in the area, such as The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack.

SCHOOLING Schools in New Jersey, including those in Englewood Cliffs, offer a wide variety of educational experiences to meet the individual needs of every family – from early childhood through graduate school – with access to public, charter, and private schools. Many of these schools meet – and often exceed – state and national education requirements. There is also a wide selection of private child care facilities for six-week-old infants up to kindergarten-aged children. Englewood Cliffs School District The Englewood Cliffs Public School District website provides in-depth information about its schools, including grade-level curriculum and school attendance boundaries (i.e., which schools serve which neighborhoods/addresses). Visit www.englewoodcliffs.org for more information on individual school websites and even more specific information for students and parents. Entrance to most of the public schools is determined by the street address of the home, although in some cases, classrooms in the closest neighborhood school can be full and therefore unable to accept additional students. In such cases, the family will be directed to the next closest school with space available. All public schools will require identification and confirmation of residence, before allowing the child to register. Tours are not typically offered in the public schools. Private Schools Private schools follow their own application processes, timelines, and selection criteria that can be accessed individually online. Interviews and oftentimes placement tests are part of the selection process. Some of the schools work on rigid admission dates and others offer flexibility to the moving family. Private school information is available online or through each school’s website. Individual tours are welcomed. HOSPITAL Emergency

If you have a medical emergency and need immediate care, you can either take your own mode of transportation to the emergency room of the nearest hospital, or dial 911 for immediate medical attention to arrive at your location. An ambulance will then take you to the hospital. Dial 911 only in a serious medical emergency. The emergency room is not intended for situations where a call to your doctor or a visit to a walk- in clinic would be sufficient. Situations that demand medical attention but may not necessarily be emergencies include animal bites and small puncture wounds or lacerations. Hospitals Most hospitals are either non-profit and operate with the help of endowments or are privately- owned and operate for profit. If your doctor tells you that you will need to go to a hospital for any non-emergency reason, he/she will discuss with you which hospital to choose. To locate a hospital near you visit: www.hospitallink.com .

The two primary hospitals in Englewood Cliffs are: • Englewood Health: www.englewoodhealth.org • Hackensack University Medical Center: www.hackensackumc.org Urgent Care Centers

You may visit an Urgent Care Center if you need non-emergency medical assistance when your primary care doctor’s office is closed. Many urgent care centers are open from the early morning until late in the evening during the week and maintain weekend and holiday hours. Just as with a visit to the doctor, the Urgent Care Center will always need your insurance information, and a co-pay may apply at the time of treatment.
