Health Medical/Dental System Overview
Your social security card and maticule number, are also your National Health Insurance reference. You will be registered by your employer with the National Health Insurance - Nationale de Santé (CNS) - and will apply for your family’s membership as outlined above under “Matricule”. When visiting a health professional, the bill is paid in full by the patient. The insured person then sends the invoice together with proof of payment to the CNS, who then directly reimburses a percentage of the bill to the patient’s bank account. In most cases, visits to a health professional are reimbursed 80% of the amount paid, for children, often 100%. It is not necessary to get a referral from a general practitioner before seeing a medical specialist. Prescriptions are already heavily subsidized by the government and the amount covered by the CNS is directly deducted at the pharmacy, so you only pay the remaining cost. Non- prescription medication is not subsidised by the CNS. The CNS is covered by the Social Security contributions, which are automatically deducted from your salary and paif for both the employer and the employee. For a full overview of CNS coverage, please visit their website: CNS Vaccinations There are no required vaccinations to enter Luxembourg, but the recommended vaccines include MMR, Polio, TB and Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis. As of April 2022 it is no longer compulsory for anyone entering the country by air to show Covid-19 vaccination proof, however it is important to check this before travelling in case rules change. For more information see the government website Visiting Luxembourg - Coronavirus - Official information - Luxembourg (public.lu) Private Health Insurance Luxembourg residents registered with the CCSS may also take out a supplementary health insurance. Please ask your employer, if the company has a corporate plan with any private health insurance providers.
