Libraries Established in 1899, the Biblioteque nationale de Luxembourg is the copyright library for Luxembourg and houses approximately 750,000 books and 3,500 periodicals. The national library has been central to the downtown area since 1798.

Bock: Bock is a fortified castle located in the northeastern corner of Luxembourg City. Overlooking the River Alzette, Bock has wonderful views of the city as well as history dating back to 963 and the creation of Luxembourg City + Grand Ducal Palace: This is the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg as well as where most of the duties as head of state are conducted + Notre-Dame Cathedral: Similar to the famous cathedral in Paris, the Notre-Dame in Luxembourg is the largest and only cathedral in the country. In the cathedral you can see excellent examples of gothic and renaissance elements + Gelle Fra: The Gelle Fra is the Monument of Remembrance for WWI and WWII in Luxembourg City + Fort Thungen: Located in Drai Eechelen Park, Fort Thungen watches over the neighborhood of Kirchberg and serves as the Museum of Drai Eechelen. In Luxembourgish, Drai Eechelen means Three Acorns, for the acorns that sit on top of each tower Athletics Luxemburg, like much of Europe, adores football (soccer), cycling, tennis and other activities such as swimming, golf and cricket. Many of these sports are easy to find around the country at local sport centers. Pick-up games for football are common in local parks and many people cycle as the country is fairly flat and easy to navigate. Professional sports in Luxembourg include football, basketball, cricket, rugby, ice hockey and professional, road bike racing. Parks Luxembourg has wonderful national parks as well as local parks in every city. National parks highlight the beauty of the country’s lakes and rivers promoting water sports and boating. Inside many cities there are local public parks for residents to enjoy and use or outdoor activities. Many are perfect for families, runners, football games and just about every other sport. A few popular parks in Luxembourg City include: + Petrusse: This park has ancient ruins and stunning rock formations to create a romantic atmosphere + Drai Eechelen Park: Just outside of the Fort Thungen, enjoy the landscape as well as the area’s history as a fortress for nearly 300 years + Parc de Merl-Belair: Located just outside of the city center, this park is a favorite with local families for its fantastic playground and peaceful lake views Recreation and Outdoors
