There are five main banking options in your area. Most expatriates find it easier to open an account with an Irish bank since many foreign banks only provide corporate services. Exchange In the Republic of Ireland, the official currency is the euro. Notes are €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200 and €500, while coins are 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, €1 and €2. Shops will no longer give change of 1c or 2c, this will be rounded up to the nearest 5c. Helpful Hint: It is useful to exchange some money before arriving so you can grab a cab or a bite to eat right away.
