Discovering Australia
Expats moving to Australia will find a range of property types available:
+ Studios - properties that have no separated rooms + Apartments - often referred to as flats. Flats with 3 or more bedrooms are not as common + Townhouses - sometimes called units or villas + Detached houses - it is estimated that more than 75% of the homes in Australia are detached houses + Semi-detached houses and homes + Units or “terraced houses”
The standard of accommodation will vary slightly from area to area and between types of accommodation, but it is generally very high. Please keep in mind that available housing styles and rental costs vary from city to city and even from neighborhood to neighborhood within cities. Your consultant will advise on the housing options and price ranges available in your destination city.
Unfurnished Accommodation In Australia, there is much more interest in unfurnished properties and apartments and houses are often empty on new occupation. Approximately 70% of rental properties will have built in wardrobes. The kitchen will have a sink and oven, but no other equipment such as refrigerator or dishwasher. People moving into an empty property may need to bring complete fittings and furnishings with them or buy everything new. Unfurnished properties generally have a longer lease term and good quality ones are getting harder to come by.
Partly Furnished Accommodation A partly furnished property only includes furniture.
Furnished Accommodation In Australia, the letting of furnished property is not common. In larger cities, however, the market has adapted to the increasing demand for furnished accommodation and the supply of furnished accommodations is improving. In general, furnished accommodation is tailored towards business travelers, singles, and couples. When a satisfactorily furnished property is found, one must expect a higher rent than an empty property. Australia is a safe country and home security isn't an issue. As long as expats exercise common sense, they are unlikely to have a problem. The installation of a simple alarm system should be enough to deter potential robbers.
