CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR INTERNSHIP WITH ADOBE! We are so excited you will be joining us soon. Seattle is an amazing and diverse community with tons of activities to do and places to see. There are so many perks to living in the heart of Greater Seattle – access to new people, culture, food and technology but with that comes the challenge of finding affordable housing. Rental home and apartment prices tend to be high in Seattle, so we recommend finding a roommate/housemate to split the cost of housing and utilities. Figure out where you want to live and get started on the search as early as you can. We have compiled some information together for you to help get you oriented with your internship location. We wish you luck in your housing search! WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT RENTING IN SEATTLE Seattle is the largest city in the state of Washington and hub of the sprawling metropolitan region of Greater Seattle. The “Emerald City” has grown rapidly, not only as the U.S. birthplace of gourmet coffee, but as a hotbed of high-technology industries. Downtown Seattle and the communities of Bellevue, Redmond, Sammamish and Issaquah are among the many choices for prospective residents. Demand is particularly strong; thus, prices are higher, in downtown Bellevue, downtown Redmond – and in Seattle, the neighborhoods of Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, and Belltown. Capitol Hill, with its many restaurants and clubs, is a particular favorite with young singles. West Seattle has grown in popularity due to lower rent prices and a new tunnel that is under construction will make for a much easier commute than before.

BELLEVUE, WA Bellevue is a large suburb located 4.5 miles east of Seattle on the shores of Lake Washington. It is the center of the high-tech community and has a very strong and stable economy. It is a thriving metropolis ripe in its professional services and business climate. Bellevue also offers a wide range of cultural and recreational opportunities. Much like the rest of the Seattle area, housing in Bellevue remains at a premium. Supply remains low while demand continues to increase. Because of this, the median home prices have risen significantly in the last few years and will likely continue to do so throughout 2019. ISSAQUAH, WA Issaquah is a rapidly developing suburb, lying just south of Lake Sammamish off of I-90. Lake Sammamish State Park offers swimming, biking, picnic facilities, boating, in addition to 40+ hiking trails. Issaquah also offers Gilman Village, which is a collection of restaurants and unique shops. The school district ranks second in statewide rankings and is known for its outstanding music and drama programs. Issaquah has a range of housing options, including apartments, condos, and single-family homes. Being a rapidly-developing area, most homes are newer, but have a tendency to sell or rent very quickly, reflecting the Seattle market. REDMOND, WA Redmond lies just east of Bellevue, and boasts a population of 59,285, making it the 19th largest city in Washington State. The 16.06 square miles that make up Redmond include 23 developed parks, as well as the Burke-Gilman cycling and walking trail that goes around Lake Washington into Seattle. Redmond is part of the Lake Washington School District. It is known as the bicycling capital of the Pacific Northwest. Homes in Redmond tend to sell or rent very quickly, as a result of the red-hot real estate market surrounding Seattle. When searching for a place to live, expect plenty of competition KIRKLAND, WA Primarily an upscale residential community, Kirkland has eight miles of waterfront property on the shores of Lake Washington. The downtown district is full of upscale boutiques and art galleries as well as popular restaurants. There is also a newly built Performance Hall in the center of downtown Kirkland, which hosts musical and dramatic performances year-round. Housing in Kirkland are primarily single-family homes and have been selling for a median price of $755,000 in 2018. If looking to purchase or rent in Kirkland, time is of the essence, as properties can sell or rent very quickly. .

LEASING TIPS - In a competitive rental market, bring a completed rental application - including all necessary documentation - and a check for security deposit when visiting the property - Ask if the landlord offers any favorable terms for your employer - Come prepared with enough funds to pay for the first month of rent, plus the deposit amount. Deposit requirements vary, but can be equal to one-month rent (or more) - Be extra diligent when reviewing the lease from a private landlord. Unlike large apartment complexes, which generally have well established agreements, private landlords may be less experienced and may include unfavorable or unrealistic clauses - Ask a family member, friend, or colleague to come along with you on the move-in inspection to have an extra set of eyes

TRANSPORTATION Metro Transit provides transportation options for the Seattle area that includes busses, light rail, streetcars, trains, and water taxis that operate and connect throughout King County. Complete information can be found by clicking the link above, including fares, schedules, and parking. Trains Train/Link Light Rail are two trains that travel between UW Station and Angle Lake Station and the Tacoma link, that travels through downtown Tacoma. Buses Sound Transit is a public transit agency serving the Seattle metropolitan area, including bus travel between King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Community Transit is the public bus service of Snohomish County, but excludes the city of Everett. Ferries Washington State Ferries is a government agency that operates automobile and passenger ferry service in the Seattle area, as a part of the Washington State Department of Transportation. More information can be found at the link above. Commute Alternatives The Commuter Alternatives Program helps you find inexpensive, stress-free and environmentally-friendly ways to get to work. HOSPITALS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES Numerous hospitals and emergency care centers serve Seattle and its surrounding suburbs. From large, public clinics, to smaller establishments, care is never out of reach in Seattle. These medical centers include: - Evergreen Hospital - Harborview Medical Center - Northwest Hospital and Medical Center - Overlake Hospital - University of Washington Medical Center Urgent Care Facilities For urgent, but not life-threatening, medical concerns that occur after-hours, or cannot wait for an appointment with a regular physician, urgent care centers can be found throughout the area: - Immediate Clinic - West Seattle Convenient Care - U.S. Healthworks - ZoomCare Many urgent care centers are open from the early morning until late in the evening during the week, and also maintain weekend and holiday hours. Just as with a visit to the doctor, an urgent care center will always need your insurance information. Although the staff will file a claim to receive payment from your health insurance provider, a co-pay may apply at the time of treatment. SHOPPING Shopping in Seattle offers a fantastic overall experience, even if you are not buying anything. These malls and shopping centers are just some of what the Seattle has to offer. The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington, a landmark of the Pacific Northwest and an icon of Seattle. It was built in the Seattle Center for the 1962 World's Fair, which drew over 2.3 million visitors. Nearly 20,000 people a day used its elevators.
Pioneer Square www.pioneersquare.org
Art galleries, coffee shops and trendy bars fill Pioneer Square’s late-1800s Romanesque Revival buildings. Tourists explore subterranean streets on the guided Underground Tour and learn about Seattle’s roots at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Office workers unwind in secluded Waterfall Garden Park or grab lunch from food trucks at Occidental Square, a plaza with bistro tables and bocce courts.

Pike Place Market is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront in Seattle, Washington, United States. The Market opened August 17, 1907 and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers' markets in the United States. If food is what you’re looking for, visit one of Tom Douglas’ famous Seattle restaurants: Dahlia Lounge, Palace Kitchen, Serious Pie, and Assembly Hall. Also, Dick’s Drive-in is a famous burger joint that is “superior” to the famous In-and-Out.
Seattle is also known for having the most coffee shops and wineries. Woodinville is 30 minutes from downtown and has over 100 wineries to choose from.
